SUBLIME w. ROME : Yeah or Nay
Now we all know Sublime, and if you didn't like them, you suck. They created a genre in my eyes, that people have been trying to copy/edit/make their own for the last 15 years. I saw Sublime in 95 and it was one of the worst live shows ever, as Bradley could barely play the guitar. I was going to school at Santa Clara, and it was in the student auditorium. Look back at it now and laugh....BUT, they put out some amazing, ground-breaking tunes, and the tunes are still going strong today.
So the question is - ROME WITH SUBLIME. Good idea or bad? On one hand, you say, look at Van Halen. David Lee Roth, then Sammy Hagar. Still Van Halen, both good, both different. But Sublime seems different. Sublime IS/WAS Bradley Nowell. At least thats how it feels to me. And Sublime with Rome seems more like marketing than the same band. What do you guys think of this latest incantation?

I say Yeah, only 'cause I feel the fans deserve to enjoy their music live. You aren't the first person to say how bad their live show was back in the day--it's no secret that they guys showed up to their concerts f'd up! :) I understand Bradley's family/widow feeling that Sublime is not the same & shouldn't go on w/out him. Completely agree. But I understand how the remaining guys feel they owe it to their fans to keep the Sublime tradition going. Like you said, they've created a genre that has never been duplicated. I've got my ticket for April & can't wait to see them. Bradley can't be replaced, but Rome seems to be a worthy successor at this point in time.
I totally agree with you. I also saw them in 95, they played House of Blues in Hollywood with Slightly Stoopid as their opener. I had an AMAZING time but it was all Bradley and I still think it is Bradley. If you change the drummer etc it is one thing, but when the singer changes it changes everything. I still listen to them a lot, have all their music on my ipod, I have the CD's and tapes... I am not stoked on the comeback, I live in the legacy. It would be like someone replacing Bob Marley... ok totally different scale lol :)
i say yeah. i've heard plenty on this whole situation. at first i was a nay. of course sublime can never be replaced. and of course rome is no brad, but he's not bad. i'm just all for it because i want to hear some sublime music live. i never got to hear them live with brad. and at least its with bud and eric. better with 2/3 of the band then none!
YEAH! I have been to countless Sublime Tribute shows and I could careless who is singing the vocals because more than likely I am singing along so loud that I can’t hear anyone but myself. As long as there are Sublime tunes I am grooving. Of course bringing back the name of “Sublime” with Rome is a marketing tool but whom better to cash in on it than Eric and Bud, it only seems far. LONG LIVE SUBLIME!
